Peak’s Smart Work Helps a Client Work Smarter

Peak Systems completely redesigned the Business Markets Group Intranet, a vital resource for over 4,000 of our Fortune 200 client's employees.

Our client on this project, a Fortune 200 company, hired Peak Systems in 2007 to completely redesign its Business Markets Group Intranet, an important resource used regularly by over 4,000 employees.

The old BMG Intranet lacked any coherent, consistent way for users to update the content. As a result, information was scattered across nearly 1,300 pages - not exactly user friendly. Broken links, outdated information and redundant documents abounded. The internal search functionality was poor. The lack of consistent information architecture and the outdated graphic design made this important employee resource even more problematic to use.

Solution

In the course of completely redesigning the BMG Intranet, Peak demonstrated a variety of different skills. First, Peak totally overhauled the graphical look of the old site, bringing it up to modern standards and implementing a new and consistent page layout, architecture and navigation scheme.

Next, Peak performed a comprehensive content inventory, working with BMG personnel to determine which content should and should not appear on the new site. Peak removed the redundant, outdated content and migrated the content that was still relevant to the new site.

Peak then developed and integrated a content management system so that BMG employees could easily update any page on the site and add or remove related files in a consistent manner, something that was impossible on the old BMG Intranet.

Peak topped the site off with a Google Search Appliance to ensure powerful internal searching and information retrieval.

Results

Each page of the BMG Intranet allows users to make comments, complaints and assign a rating. The most common type of feedback is a complaint. The number of complaints submitted has steadily declined, from 755 submitted in January 2008 to only 25 submitted in January 2009. The reason for the decline is that the CMS allows complaints to be easily addressed by site administrators, ensuring that the BMG Intranet is always improving and always current.
