Description

The Medical Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games (SLOC), and the Congress Organizing Committee organized a symposium on exercise and sport sciences—the 6th IOC World Congress—scheduled to be held during the week of September 16-21, 2001. Sport scientists and physicians were invited from the biological, physical, behavioral, and medical disciplines to share their knowledge (theoretical, applied, and clinical) with an international audience of physicians, therapists, scientists, and coaches.

Scope

The IOC World Congress and Paralympic Congress sites both can be divided into three main deliverables:

• A website containing information about the Congresses
• A registration function (including e-commerce capability) allowing users to pay for Congress tickets and tickets to related events
• An abstract submission utility that allowed potential participants to submit summaries of their proposed presentations. Administrators could then review and rate submissions based on their merit.

Results

The two sites are built on the same technological platform and proved to be such a successful tool that Athens 2004 entered into a contract with Peak to provide the same application modified into the Athens 2004 website.
