Salt Lake 2002 Torch Relay Project
The Peak Systems team was very closely involved with making the 2002 Olympic Winter Games an unmitigated success. One of the more prominent projects Peak Systems worked on was the Olympic Torch Relay Registration Tool.
The Olympic Torch Relay is the tradition that symbolizes most powerfully the Olympic spirit—indeed, the motto of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games was “light the fire within.” The 2002 Relay was the first to use a centralized, web-accessible database to coordinate the day-to-day operations.

Scope
The online applications for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games vary widely and satisfy numerous operational directives. The Olympic Torch Relay project is made up of a number of public and private applications that were used to assist in the planning, coordination and execution of the Olympic Torch Relay for the 2002 Games.
Results
Over 11,000 torchbearers participated in the relay from Atlanta, GA to Salt Lake City, UT. These Games also mark the first time the internet was utilized to recruit volunteers. A total of over 50,000 volunteers (more than 98% of all applicants) applied through the web via this application.
